Andrei Tiba is a genius composer since the age of 8

Andrei Tiba is a genius composer since the age of 8

He won an international piano and composition contest in Finland and is the youngest member of the Union of Composers and Musicologists in Romania – and this only at the age of 16.

It is too less to say that he has a born artistic talent in order to describe Andrei. The young man is composing since he was 8 years old. “I liked music. I started to study the piano for my amusement with Mrs. Lucia Parvulescu from the Music High-school. I enjoyed playing the piano so that I composed certain opuses. Back then the composition was solely based on inspiration, because I had no musical knowledge”, told us Andrei. At the age of 10 he took his chance and certain of his work done while composing, he listed his opuses at the Union of Composers and Musicologists in Romania, thus becoming the youngest member. In order not to waste everything he had done up to that point, he started to study canto with Mrs. Elena Goja at the age of 11. Now two or three hours a day are reserved for the piano that he has been studying since ha was 13 with Mrs. Emanuela Sigheti. He has been studying composition and orchestration for about five years with a maestro and composer of an international level. Ladislau Roth was the director of the Mexico Opera and worked with artists like Luciano Pavarotti or Placido Domingo. “He is a complete composer who composes any kind of quality music. I am like an heir of his knowledge. At 85 years he wants to leave something behind”, said Andrei, an opera conductor.

A week ago Andrei Tiba conducted the orchestra of the Romanian National Opera House in Timisoara that played his compositions. “I have created a choral album of 10 orchestrated opuses, being helped a lot in my work by the Catholic Church. It is an important achievement to conduct such an orchestra at the age of 16 and it is even more important for them to play your compositions. It is a great satisfaction”, affirmed the teenager. For Andrei composition means to have a lot of musical knowledge, inspiration and to play with the musical keys. “I have reached a very advanced level which is probably taught at the conservatory”, said the young man. Despite these Andrei composes when he is in a special mood. “Sometimes I am melancholic. Usually one composes when being in love, when having a beautiful experience. Then one composes for a certain event”, explained the teenager who prefers the film music although he composes as well classical as film music. “There is a lot of discipline and a very well established timetable”, said Andrei. Beside piano and composition the young man is also keen on sportive dancing. For the future I wish to study composition and conducting in Vienna. I want to make a career in film music and to eventually become a great dancer.”

Questions and answers:

“Which is your favorite composer?” “My favorite film music composer is Hans Zimmer, but I also like different composers of classical music, for example Mozart.”
“What do you like about film music?” “I like the effects and the percussion and the moods transmitted. It takes you into an extraordinary world”.

Likes: “I like discipline, elegance, ambition. I like when a person is open-minded, sociable. I like honesty”.
Dislikes: “I do not like lies, egoism and vulgarity”.

A genius at the age of 10

Andrei Tiba - Geniu la 10 ani The youngest member of the Union of Composers in Romania is an only ten years old boy from Timisoara. Andrei Tiba is a student in de fourth grade and amazed everyone with his musical talent. He is a composer, lyricist and interpreter of his compositions all at once. His biggest dream is to follow the classes of the conservatory in Italy and to get one day as famous as the Spanish tenor Jose Carreras, his idol.

Andrei Alexandru Tiba is only 10 years old and is the youngest member of the Union of Composers in Romania. In July 2003 he recorded three creations at this professional organization, creations, for which he signed the composition and text. Andrei Tiba is a pupil in the fourth grade at the “Nikolaus Lenau” High-school in Timisoara and his musical performances took place without his taking part at classes in a music school. “Children sometimes accuse me that I do not get out so play so much. But when I am inspired I cannot do anything else than sit and compose”, affirms the boy. “The first sign that we have a special boy came from his kindergarten teacher. When he started school we registered him into the Flores chorus at the Children’s Palace/Club. The principal Nicolae Puscasu told us that it would be a pity to leave Andi only there with the chorus class. He advised us to take him to piano lessons and this is the point where our son’s evolution has started”, declares Sebastian Tiba, his father. The boy takes piano lessons from the age of 8. He has recently been tested my maestro Ladislau Roth from the Romanian national opera House in Timisoara. He was surprised to notice that Andi had much more advanced knowledge than any other child his age who had studied piano at the National College/High-school of Music “Ion Vidu”. Thus the boy began to study harmony in January 2004, a subject that is usually taught in high-school at musical schools.

A lot of prizes

Up to now Andrei Tiba has composed three melodies/songs, also having written the lyrics for these. At the fragile age of only ten years the little boy wishes to become more than “a star”. The first step towards his goal has been made last year when he won the grand prize at the International Festival for Folk Music “Flowers in the City of Flowers”. This year he won the first prize at the same contest and was qualified for the preselection of the performing contest “Mamaia for Children”. Andi impressed the jury of the Bucharest festival “Ministar Ciresar” obtaining a special prize. He has had many appearances on local TV posts up to now, but his biggest achievement was his appearance at TVR International. His performances do not stop here: he won prizes every school year, he took part in a modeling class, continues to study music and dance, he is learning to improve himself on playing the piano and organ and studies canto with Mrs. Elena Goja. The one who helps him compose the lyrics for his songs is maestro Robert Bajkay, cantor at the Catholic Cathedral and his piano teacher.

He wants to be the second Jose Carreras

“I usually compose in the morning. Then I am mostly inspired. First come the lyrics and then I sit down in front of the organ and search for a rhythm. In about one wee I manage to create a new song. It is pure fantasy, but I honestly prefer to compose than to get out and play with children”, says Andrei Tiba. He wants to take classes at the conservatory in Italy in order to become a tenor as well known as Jose Carreras, his idol. Only his parents know how much his education costs. The piano, organ and canto lessons and the outfits for each appearance/ performance on stage are not cheap. A complete outfit – because the boy cannot be seen with the same outfit twice – can cost up to 4 million lei and the private classes cost 2 million lei a month. It seems to be worth, because his talent is being appreciated. “Despite the fact that he is only ten years old, Andrei Tiba is already a star. His merits in composition and performance have already been confirmed by the prizes he has obtained/earned during several contests. His achievement to be a member of the Union of Composers at this age is amazing”, declared Petru Umanschi, a well known musicologist in Timisoara.

At 10 years – the youngest composer in the country

Copiii_teribili_ai_vestului Andrei Tiba is a name to be certainly heard by Romanians and Timisoara citizens – in case the have not already heard of. He is an only ten year old boy, being the youngest composer in Romania. In July of the present year his first three compositions have been recorded at the Union of Romanian Composers – three songs which he himself has composed - form the melody up to the lyrics. Up to now other three opuses have been recorded. The totally six opus are: “To be a Star”, “The Voice of Heart”, “A Message for You” (which have already won prizes at an international children contest), “Soul of a Child”, “Christmas Carol” and “My Spring”. All that the young boy wishes is to be a star, this young boy who despite his age and little experience in music has won the big prize at the International Folk Music Contest – “Flowers in the City of Flowers”, two years ago. Last year he won the first prize at the same festival and also qualified for the final pre-selection of the festival/contest “Mamaia for Children”. The boy from Timisoara made a final impression on the jury from “Ministar Ciresar”, a national music contest in Bucharest where he won the special prize of the jury. His songs have been played on several occasions on the national television a local TV posts, but the most important televised appearances have been on “TVR International”, “Realitatea TV”, “Pro TV”, after having repeatedly been broadcasted on local and regional posts. His coming through has been a real performance regarding the fragile age of this young musician who is just now finishing the forth grade. Andrei Tiba is a pupil at the “Nikolaus Lenau” High-school in Timisoara and his musical performances took place without his taking part at classes in a music school. Everything he does comes from his exceptional talent he has been born with and which at an age, where the main occupation of a child is playing, he is preoccupied with the piano keys. “It is true that children accuse me now, and this is happening very often, that I do not get out so play so much. But when I am inspired I cannot do anything else than sit in front of the organ or PC and compose”, declared the little talent of the city along the Bega river.

“The first sign for us that we have a special son became obvious when Andi was in the kindergarten. His kindergarten teacher was the one who made us pay attention that he has a special gift for music”, says Gabriela, the boy’s mother. Thus, when he started school, Andrei Tiba also started to attend classes at the Children’s Palace/Club and became a member of the “Flores” band. At the age of 8 Andrei started to get private piano classes and one year later he was attending intensive courses. Ladislau Roth, the maestro of the Romanian Opera House in Timisoara, has recently tested the boy and noticed the fact that he already has more advanced knowledge (about five years) ahead any other student who studied the piano at the National Music College. This is the reason why the boy started to study harmony in January, a subject that is usually studied only in high-school. Thus maestro Roth has taken him under his protection and is carefully watching over his musical activity at the time being, so that he has become a third parent for him. He orchestrates his opus and supervises his study so that the boy has evolved a lot under his influence.

But his performances do not stop here: he won prizes in every school year, he too a modeling course, he is studying music and dance, is learning to deepen his piano knowledge and organ, but also takes canto lessons with Elena Gaja. In these days the young talent from Timisoara has qualified for the music festival for children “Young Talents” where he shocked the audience with an extremely complex appearance, because he performed vocal and instrumental opus on stage thus winning the well earned first prize.
